On the one hand I am blessed that I have a husband that loves everything about food. He loves to shop for it, collect recipes for it, make it, etc. Unfortunately, we sometimes cross paths with recipes that sound really good, got to make right away, sits top of mind until tasted...

So, one day out of one of his many healthy cook books he found this recipe that called for Avacado Oil. We had all the ingredients for the dish except the avacado oil so off to the store he goes. Turns out he went to many stores looking for this one (apparently) rare ingredient for this test dish. Can't find the oil anywhere. So the book finally gets put back in it's place and everytime he would go to the store he would look for it.

A couple months later, I take him to Costco with me to pick up a few items and low and behold what does he find? You guessed it Avacado Oil (mega size of course)! So I tell him, lets think about this. Out of all the recipes in all your books, newspapers, grocery adds, etc...you have never encounted a recipe that calls for this item including since you started your never ending search for the avacado oil. Does it really make sense to buy such a big bottle for one little recipe?

He says yes, I think so. So, we buy the oil and head home. I continue to unload the car while he goes in search for his recipe (because you now know we have a trip to the store coming for the rest of the ingredients)!

I get done with the car and putting stuff away when he goes: Which book was that recipe in again?

Never found the recipe and still have this mega bottle of avacado oil (now outdated)but I keep it around as a friendly reminder to think recipes through in the future!

I don't think the bear story can be topped. I really enjoyed reading it. My husband loves canned spinach. I only like it in quiche or this wonderful cheese and spinach casserole that my friend, Arlis, makes. She "gifted" us all with the recipe just this past week!! Yum! Yum!

Nancy

1. Drain the can of spinach.
2. Fry about 4 strips of bacon, remove from pan and add spinach.
3. Stir until nice a hot.
4. Crumble leftover bacon on top.
5. Eat
6. Buy more spinach (frozen works best)

I have a can in my pantry to use....

Well, if I ask my husband to pick something up at the store for me, he never just gets one or two... he comes home with 6 or a dozen! Doesn't matter if I don't have any place to store it, he thinks he's doing me a favor!!! lol!

Barb

I don't want to put a damper on your progress, pat....but your Blog heading still says "May!" You're still living in the past. But I will be patient.
I keep checking the yarn blog, hoping for some new exciting project, or yarn, or something. (sigh) Maybe you need to hire some more help! Barb in CA

canned corn here. NOBODY will eat it except me. And of course theres a couple cans in the cabinet and I just dont eat it fast enough. Now Fresh corn on the cob is a whole 'nuther story, everyone LOVES it and its gone lightening fast!

Go figure.

I have a can of "She Crab" soup in my cupboard from...well...hmmm....lets say four years ago - oh ya, it is expired, but I am not getting rid of it because he said he was going to eat it.....um ya, there is no way he would eat it now that it is outdated that nose of his would go directly up in the air in disgust if I tried to feed him outdated items. The only positive about this is we didn't buy it - he won it at a party crab feed.

I'm LOVING these stories!!!!! Food drive.. BRILLIANT!!!!

not sure we can top the 'Bear Story'.. that is a GOOD ONE!

OK Pat .... I can top that ..... my husband is the KING of the PENNY PINCHERS and a health food/fitness nut ...... well, in his quest to have us all eat healthy, BUT realizing how expensive this can be ..... he decided to shop at the farmer's market (now this was in the winter when there's NO fresh produce here in Pa .... so the vendors sell stuff like grocery store cast offs for CHEAP) Anyhow, he came across what he classifies as a GREAT BARGAIN ...... 2 CASES (not just 2 boxes ..... 2 CASES) of out of date All Bran cereal .......now if you think All Bran is saw dust when it's fresh, just picture the texture when it's about a year past it's freshness date .....a real treat, let me tell ya.....Anyhow, nobody would it this stuff (can you blame us? ) .... so he FINALLY put it outside in the garbage can ......and guess who did eat it ...... he's big, and furry and weighs about 300 pounds and has very looooooong claws and BIG TEETH ....... yep, that would be Yogi (one of the many black bears around our neighborhood) ..... well, Yogi like the stuff and ate quite a bit .......and guess what happened next! ..... well, that All Bran laxative propery kicked in big time on Yogi and he didn't quite make it across our driveway and into the woods with his urgent bathroom call ..... no.... nope ..... dumped a BIG ONE right in the middle of our driveway .....all thanks to the thrifty health food shopper who knows a bargain when he sees one!!

That is so funny! My husband does the same thing. He is usually trying to save money...but when it doesn't get eaten it doesn't save money. We have fish in the freezer from March 2008 that I am waiting for my husband to cook. I cooked the first two packages. I asked him to cook the last one since the fillets have the skin on and have a few bones. At least this year he we he went fishing he gave most of the fish to the neighbor.

Cynthia

We have the debate with the pets: "What did you get", "the ususal". "I love that stuff" "OK, I'll trade my stuff for your stuff".

Dogs love cat food, then they hurl.

Shyla

I bet that it is going to stay past it's expiration date and have an inch or two of dust on it. We are the same way but it is I that buys stuff that my husband turns his nose up on. I like catfish and he does not and I am trying to eat better healthier more fish veggies etc. My husband could eat nothing but veggies and be fine but then he has to remember that we have 2 kids that are a bit picky when it comes to food. Anyway I love your story and yes I noticed that you changed it to June. Have a great day!

Ps if you want rid of the can of spinach give it to one of the can drives with a few others. I have done that before.
