I started sewing as a child (love those doll clothes!) and I continued to sew clothing for myself until I discovered quilting. I've been quilting now for over 15 years. I soon started teaching and then I decided to put my ideas into patterns.
I run my own design business called Pat Sloan & Company located in Fairfax County, Virginia. I have found that I really enjoy designing patterns and seeing what other quilters do with my patterns.
In addition to publishing my own patterns, I design patterns for McCall's Quilting, McCall's Quick Quilts, American Patchwork & Quilting, Quilters World, Create & Decorate, and the Fons and Porter magazines. I have designed several fabric lines with P&B Textiles. Starting in 2012 my fabric will be with Moda Fabrics.
Also, I love
working with the great people at my book publisher Leisure Arts, with whom I have done more than 15 books.

Products I Use
Sewing Machines
Bernina Aurora 440 QE
Quilting Machine
The George Complete Quilting System from American Professional Quilting Sytsems
Batting
I really like Mountain Mist Cream Rose which is 100% cotton, and their GOLD Fuse batting 50% poly and 50% cotton batting for large projects I quilt myself.
Hobbs 100% Wool batting is what I use for most of my large quilts that I have quilted for me. It has wonderful loft and the wool does not hold the creases.
For smaller wall hangings and table runners I'm using Warm and Natural batting. This is a nice firm batting and I also like it for purses. It is 100% cotton. www.warmcompany.com
Thread
For my machine work I use Aurifil 50 and 40 weight threads. I love them for Blanket Stitching, piecing and quilting.
I also useMettler 100% cotton, silk finish thread. And on 'George' I do some machine quilting with Signature threads.
A wonderful thread I'm using for hand blanket stitching is Caron threads, the wildflower style. It is 100% cotton, variegated colors and hand dyed, just beautiful!
Fabric
I use 100% good cotton fabric. I really love all kinds of fabrics. P&B Fabrics, FreeSpirit, Red Rooster, and Timeless Treasures and some of the companies I work with to make the type of quilts that I do.
Adhesives (fusible web)
For a consistent fusible web every time for every project, I use Thermoweb's Heatnbond Lite.
