Part #9 Details
Hi this is Pat Sloan with the BIG REVEAL... Meadow Breeze is done!! You now have all 9 parts of my Mystery Quilt.
And the race is ON! You have until Dec 15, 2010 to get your completed TOP done, photographed and LOADED to our flickr group.
On Dec 15 a lucky person who has completed the top, will be selected to win
This custom box of Aurifil thread... swoon!!!
So put your photos in our flickr file... you still have time to join in!
http://www.flickr.com/groups/1366594@N23/
Here are your border sections (you DO have these done... right?)
Let's see a few selections for the lady bug. I wanted to make her peach (yes... it's a girl!). This one would work...
mmm... then I thought maybe a light green body....
Success! I like this opition with the dot fabric! So I have a GREEN lady bug... I'm creative like that!
Here she is all fused down
And with the embroidery lines drawn on.
All the rest of the flower parts for the pieced blocks.. go go go!
Grab your BEAUTIFUL Aurifil threads and "Lets Sew"!
Here is a close up of where I will START to stitch. Right where the bottom of the wings meet. So the wing on the LEFT first
Zoom Zoom around the wing until you get to the top where they meet again.
The way two wings meet, you can go straight across to wing #2. Then stitch it. Wing #2 is slightly on top of Wing #1.
I used the Burgundy 2460 for these 2 dots.
ALL DONE.. and yes.. QUILTED even!
Here is a cool Little bonus! I asked Joyce Hughes if she would like to finish her version with the thread work so they could both hang at Quilt Market in the Aurifil booth... isn't it amazing to see the 2 versions?
Visit Joyce at her website and see her quilt closer at the Flickr folder
And I am very proud and happy to say that MY Meadow Breeze is now a part of the Aurifil Quilt Collection and is living in Milan Italy... maybe I need to visit it! Here I am with Alex Veronelli of Aurifil after I presented the quilt to him!

If you are not familiar with this fusible method, see my book 'Learn to applique' for how I do fusible and keep the shapes as soft as possible by cutting away.. plus it's economical as you don't waste fusible!

August Part #8 Details
Hi this is Pat Sloan! This Part 8 of Meadow Breeze, a 9 part Mystery Quilt!! The quilt is both applique and pieced and finished to a 36" square.
I decided to give you another corner and next time we'll finish up the hoop pieces and the last corner.. are you excited we are ALMOST done!
Put your photos at our flickr file...the only way to win that thread box is to have the whole top done, and you still have time to join in!
http://www.flickr.com/groups/1366594@N23/
Here is the top right corner.. a sweet hummingbird!
I want to show you how I decide which fabrics to use at this point. I have the quilt with all the blocks on my design wall. And I'm working fabric placement for the Hummingbird block ..
another option.. still with polka dot wings
I want to use the polka dot but not for wings...
mmm... not sure this is it yet
Success! I like this opition
To keep track of my shapes i put them on the fabrics like this
TIP – The beak is so small I do not cut it out until I am ready to fuse. I fused all the other shapes first, then did the beak. I also trimmed it a bit as my hummingbird was kind of close to the flower!
I'll be hand stitching these lines with Aurifil 12 wt. You could do it with a double 40 wt.
Remember to use your knee lift on the circles.. it's your third hand!
Here is a close up of a corner.. because I know you like seeing them!
I did a straight stitch for the beak. I did NOT do a locking stitch at the stop or start as the beak is SO skinny.
Pull your threads to the back and tie a knot.. nice and clean this way.
All the blocks so far!..click for a larger image!

July Part #7 Details
This Part 7 of Meadow Breeze, a 9 part Mystery Quilt!! The quilt is both applique and pieced and finished to a 36" square.
I'm REALLY excited about the project photos that came in during the challenge to "Ketchup" on your quilt! Put your photos at our flickr file...the only way to win that thread box is to have the whole top done, and you still have time to join in!
http://www.flickr.com/groups/1366594@N23/
I decided to give you another side.. next one is also a side and last part will be the 2 corners. Then in Nov you will have time to catch up so your top can be IN THE RUNNING FOR THE THREAD BOX prize in Early Dec!
I also have a bonus project for Nov ...stay tuned...
Make all the side blocks now.. it's easy to just chain sew them!
Piecing thread, Aurifil 40 wt... it slides through your machine so nicely and no lint!
A bunch of sections all ironed... I love how this looks!
How about a little stitching video? Blanket stitch is stitch #45 on my Bernina. About 2.5 on zig zag and 2.5 on the straight stitch... or maybe 2.3.. it's hard to tell!
All the blocks so far!
